During the event
You’ve
spent time planning your fundraising event and now the day has come.
Here are some Do’s and Don’ts to help it run smoothly.
Do
- Keep it safe and legal
- Make sure everyone knows what they are doing – you might want
to prepare a short briefing document with contact numbers and a timetable
if needed
- Put posters up to remind everyone what you’re doing
- Try and get an announcement in assembly or at registration in each
class
- Arrive early to get everything ready –if you need to decorate
the hall, set up stalls or prepare the stage for example
- Have a checklist of everything you need – posters, sponsor forms
etc
- Bring extras of everything from raffle tickets to sellotape. It doesn’t matter if you don’t use it all!
- If your event is outdoors, stay safe in the sun – use sunscreen
with at least factor 15 and stay in the shade between 11am and 3pm when
the sun’s rays are strongest. Wear loose, protective clothes,
a wide brimmed hat and protective sunglasses.
- Remember to thank everyone – those who have helped run the event
and those who have attended/donated money
- Count the money at the end of the day and keep it somewhere safe
- Take photographs so you can tell everyone about what you have done
- Remind people they are helping people living with cancer
- Give yourself a pat on the back from Macmillan for being such a fantastic
fundraiser – Thank you!
Don’t
- Leave everything to the last minute - not only will you be stressed but things are more likely to go wrong!
- Forget to remind people if they are helping you - you don’t want to be left with all the work!
- Leave the place in a mess. You won’t be popular with anyone! Enlist some helpers if you need to
- Panic! Raising money is about having fun!
