Keep it safe and legal!
Tips for you and your pupils
- Ensure you are complying with health and safety regulations. Things
to consider are whether you have any qualified first-aiders at the event,
or if you are running a large event you may want to contact St Johns
Ambulance for advice or assistance. The Health and Safety Executive
also provide free information and advice – see www.hse.gov.uk
- Follow professional advice from your doctor and equipment manufacturers. If you have any doubts about your health, fitness, expertise or safety of yourself or any of your pupils STOP.
- Ensure that any under-age pupils are supervised in all activities.
- Stay legal! If you are planning to sell alcohol, hold a raffle, or have live entertainment (such as a band), you may require a license. Check with your local authority or www.culture.gov.uk for more information.
- House to house collections and street collections are illegal without a specific license. We recommend you avoid these as they also carry a threat to personal safety.
- Check you have appropriate insurance to cover your event and ensure that you follow any guidelines issued by the insurance company as failure to do so could invalidate your policy.
- Remember to include the registered charity number for Macmillan Cancer Support on all materials you produce (such as raffle tickets) as follows:
Macmillan Cancer Support Charity Number 261017.
- Remember to state clearly on any materials All proceeds go to Macmillan Cancer Support or, if you are deducting a certain proportion of the proceeds to cover costs of the event, state the proportion which is to be donated to Macmillan.
- If you are fundraising for more than one charity, please ensure that you have the prior approval of all the charities concerned before the event.
- If you want to create your own materials, and you wish to use the Macmillan logo, please email schools@macmillan.org.uk. We will provide you with guidelines for using the logo.
- Macmillans logo must not be passed on to other organisations for use without written permission from Macmillan Cancer Support.
