When and where?
For
some fundraising events, deciding when to hold it, and where, is straightforward.
However, others may not be so simple and here are a few things to consider:
Venue. Do you need to hire one? Is it large enough? Do you need permission to use it? Do you need car parking availability? How will you decorate the venue? Do you want a theme?
Equipment. If you are running a sporting event, do you have the necessary equipment?
Weather. Do you have a back up plan if the weather is bad?
Other major events. Does the event clash with any major events e.g. the FA cup final, local fetes or events or other charity events? Does it fit in with other events in the school calendar?
Time. Have you given yourself enough time to plan the event?
Entertainment. Do you need to book entertainment such as a DJ or local band?
Money. How much are you going to charge or is it a sponsored event? Do you need a float with change?
Food and refreshments. Do you need any refreshments, and who will make these?
Tell people about the event. How will you promote it
- use the poster from the toolkit to help?
Remember - many of the things you need to make an event a success can
be found within the school community. Many pupils will be members of a
band, the school hall makes an excellent venue for a disco and the canteen
staff or pupils studying food technology can be tasked with any catering!
Try to involve as many people as you can - with nearly all fundraising events bigger is better!
